Hengrave....continued from page 3.

The gardens and grounds form an important aspect of this property, designated an Historic Estate. North of the East and West Cottages is an orchard, and an
avenue of hard wood trees. The paddocks to the east of the avenue are known as the Camping Field with power and water supply along the avenue.

Church of Reconciliation:

The church was added to the medieval tower by Sir Thomas de Hengrave and his mother Joan early in the 14th century. Sir Thomas Kytson restored and altered the church and in 1540 his widow built the Lady Chapel. The porch dates from the time of Henry VIII but
the inner door remains in almost its original state, the work of de Hengrave who died in 1419. Other points of interest include the small clerestory, the pre-reformation font and fragments of ancient glass. There are also two fine modern windows in memory of the late Lady Wood, by Mr. Eden and some now faded  fourteenth century frescos.
